CAMP WATERFORD has been running now for 17 years. It is an unforgettable experience for children. We use the outstanding facilities at Newtown School which include an Indoor Swimming Pool, Tennis Courts, Sports Hall and Astro turf. Camp Waterford have developed an excellent reputation for providing children with a safe, fun and rewarding environment. Many of our staff come from a teaching background or are preparing for a future in teaching. We handpick staff who help create a fantastic friendly atmosphere for which we are known, and many of whom have come through the camps themselves.
We have 4 camps to choose from
1) CUB CAMP for 4-6 YR OLDS
2) CAMP WATERFORD for 7-14 YR OLDS
3) CW SPORTS ACADEMY and CW SPORTS ACADEMY PLUS for 13-19 YR OLDS
ALL THESE CAMPS RUN FROM 10AM-4PM are non-residential with an early or late drop service available.
CUB CAMP caters for 4-6 year olds and has it’s own separate base on the campus. The children follow a flexible timetable of activities in the morning and afternoon where the emphasis is on trying lots of things and having fun. These include a wide variety of sports, art & crafts, drama and swimming. PE Teacher and CW Director Rachel Guest runs this camp. We use Primary school teachers to lead the camp on a daily basis with the help of young staff who are looking to work with children in the future.
CAMP WATERFORD aims to provide a great experience for 7-14 year olds by offering a broad range of sports activities in an atmosphere that ensures safety, fun and learning. Children also enjoy art & crafts, drama, music & treasure hunts. We also aim to provide activities that promote fairness, honesty, kindness and respect for others. Each day starts with an assembly giving the children the opportunity to become familiar with how the camp operates, the coaches and each other. In the mornings all the children follow a timetable of sports and activities coached in small groups of children of a similar age. In the afternoon, tournaments are organised within a house system within which our unique family atmosphere is enhanced further. There is also swimming on 3 afternoons. At the end of each day the camp is gathered together once again to reflect on the days events. Prizes are awarded to those that demonstrate sportsmanship, artistic flair and helpfulness. PE Teacher & CW Director Chris Guest runs this camp, alongside a team of fantastic staff.
In all the Camps children have the opportunity to swim on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. We keep the group sizes small for all activities. Great sensitivity is shown to cautious swimmers. Help is given to Cub Camp children when changing.
The CW Sports Academy has been developed specifically for 13-19 year olds who are keen sports players and athletes. This year there will be 2 camps. In week 2 (17th-21st July 2017) the Sports Academy will cater for those that wish to get the opportunity to play a very wide variety of sports such as soccer, hockey, tag rugby, tennis, volleyball, basketball, athletics, swimming. The emphasis will be on maximum participation and playing sport. In addition students will be given the opportunity to develop their leadership skills, if they wish to, by leading sessions amongst their peers, within small groups.
The CW Sports Academy Plus in week 3 (24th-28th July 2017) will offer everything that the Sports Academy does and more. This will suit the more focussed individual who wants to play a huge variety of sport but is also keen to learn more about how to train, what to eat and how to prepare and recover effectively from sport. There will also be an intro and practical session given to demonstrate how to safely and effectively use the gym to improve physical fitness. The swimming pool will also be available for recovery sessions in addition to using all the outstanding facilities at Newtown School. Returning athletes/youth coaches can expect to build on skills, techniques and knowledge gained from years along with exciting introductions to new activities and Sports Science advice. If desired Sports Academy participants can get involved with younger CW groups, helping to coach and run a session, refereeing, organising tournaments and other advanced Sports Leadership activities. They will have the chance to achieve a CW Sports Leader Certificate. As with last year we will invite highly experienced athletes and coaches in to help lead activities, testing and to speak to the students about their journeys to the top offering their wealth of knowledge and expertise along the way. Experienced CW coach and Irish athlete Niall Tuohy (BA Sports Science and currently studying Medicine at UL) will return to lead this camp. For more information and parents reviews please see the Sports Academy page.
